Rakeman Broomer Arts : The AICR

I am quite excited about this album, and I am proud of it, too. It is a 16-track album made up of a combination of folk, country and blues songs. It is enjoyable to listen to. It may pull at your heart strings some, and it's honest storytelling.

The cover art is a photo of unpolished me put to a photo my husband took in the mountains at high altitude. The title of "Unpolished" is a literal title. Since I write the lyrics and sing background, it's not your typical studio-polished, experienced singer style album. I am a one woman show here.

Rather, it is me, background singing my words and telling my stories through the medium of song. They are perfectly imperfect, and I am okay with that. 

These songs are from my collection of cognitive therapy songs. I sing to help my brain. I write because I have no choice in the matter. I've been writing for fifty years. It's in my blood. I share my songs because I find it to be  joyful.

I may not be the best singer in the world, and I assure you I am not, but I am a pretty darn good lyricist, and I am doing my best to be as much a part of the music as I can be. My stories are good and they make for some pretty awesome songs that I share for others to enjoy...should they wish to. It's what I do.

TheAICR.com has my catalog of songs plus I upload all my new ones first to my radio station. The AICR is fun to listen to, enjoyable, and even though it is primarily folk and country, with a splash of country rock in there here and there, there are a few of my silly theatrical ones that I sing for the heck of it an to just have a little extra fun.

Because I understand that I don't know other people's reasons for using A.I. or know their stories—and because it is not my place to judge or question someone else's art form—and because of my own reasons for using A.I., I thought it would be a good idea to try to bridge the divide. First, with getting my own songs uploaded to the station, and then with opening the station up for submissions (once I figure that out, too).

I have been transparent with the use of A.I as a tool, as an avenue to share my words through song and to just share my cognitive therapy songs with others who wish to enjoy them. (I battle MCI with writing, painting and singing.) While I am at it, I am also leaving behind a huge catalog of my songs, my words, my wisdom, my background voice and/or my voice for my children and for any future generations to enjoy—maybe even connect with. Honestly, that makes me ecstatic! I make no apology for using A.I. I am extremely grateful for it.

A.I. has not only helped me battle MCI, it has helped me and continues to help me learn to sing. It has also helped me learn the craft of songwriting. It's brought me joy, and it's brought me music. It’s also brought others joy or the feeling of being seen, understood, and/or not feeling alone in their own struggles. I cannot express how much I love that. It’s about connection. It’s about a hug, a smile, a dance, and even a few tears shared through my words, my songs, my performances.

**I am in the process of setting the station up. I do not know my way around it yet, and I am also in the process of getting my songs re-mixed and uploaded onto the station's platform. Once all of that is done, the plan is to open it up for submissions. *

I am still learning, still growing, and I am trying to be as much a part of the music as I can be. For me, personally, I feel that is important. That's just my personal preference though. I'm even re-learning the guitar and trying to learn piano. The goal, besides not ending up with dementia, is to fully compose and sing my own song(s) to the guitar I am playing.

(FYI: I have two songs that I fully composed and sang, and one I co-wrote and co-sang)
